 |
Step 1: Enrollment
Enroll with a cord blood banking facility. They will send you a cord blood collection kit. Your kit contains everything your caregiver needs to collect your newborn baby's cord blood stem cells.
Enrolling with Cord Blood Registry® is easy! You can enroll online twenty-four hours a day/365 days a year. Or if you would prefer - enroll by phone at 1-888-CORD BLOOD (1-888-267-3256)

Step 2: Bring Kit to Hospital
All you have to do is bring your collection kit with you to the hospital at the time of birth. After your baby has been delivered and his or her cord has been clamped and cut, the blood will be drawn from your newborn's umbilical cord into a syringe or blood bag.
The collection takes about five minutes. If your caregiver has never performed a collection, most cord blood banking facilities can provide step by step instructions.
Step 3: Shipping
The One-Step Shipping service makes returning your baby's kit to our lab as simple as a single phone call. After the collection, the labor and delivery staff will return the collection kit to you or a designated family member. The collection kit is pre-labeled and is ready to be shipped "as-is."
To take advantage of One-Step Shipping through Quick International, simply call the courier after your baby's birth, and then relax with your new baby. With one simple phone call, your collection kit will be picked up directly from your hospital room. CBR's automated tracking system will monitor your shipment until it is safely delivered to our lab. You will receive confirmation from us as soon as your sample is received and processed.
CBR recommends both Quick International and FedEx® for shipping:
- Quick International is available to pick up your collection kit from any
hospital 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. CBR prearranges an account with Quick International for each of our clients before the baby arrives, so that scheduling a pick up is as simple as a single call to let the courier know the baby has arrived. The flat rate of $150 will be charged to your CBR account after processing is complete.
- FedEx is a reliable, familiar, and cost effective option available
Monday through Friday (hours vary). FedEx Priority Overnight Delivery and Saturday Delivery are available for a flat rate of $50, charged to your CBR account after processing is complete.
Your collection kit will include preaddressed airbills for your convenience. CBR will automatically track the shipment of the collection kit from the time your courier picks it up to the time it is safely received at our lab. You will receive a confirmation email the moment your collection kit reaches our lab. Once your baby's cord blood processing results (cell count, viability, etc.) are available, you will be notified via telephone by your Client Service Representative. Your Certificate of Deposit will arrive within two to three weeks.
Step 4: Processing
After your baby's umbilical cord blood arrives at the laboratory, it is tested for sterility, viability, and cell count.
Some processing methods remove red blood cells from your newborn baby's sample prior to storage.
Step 5: Storage
After processing is complete, your baby's cord blood sample is stored in vials that are specifically designed for cord blood banking, and sealed in a specially-designed storage containers for long-term cryogenic storage.
Cord Blood Registry is the most experienced cord blood stem cell bank in the world and their reputation for quality, integrity, and outstanding customer service has made them the most trusted name in cord blood banking.
